I used to get so fed up by the people who would bug me to drink more water. “Eight glasses! You should be drinking 8 glasses of water each day!” This pissed me off not so much because I didn’t like water (which I really didn’t), but because I couldn’t drink that much in a day unless it was hotter than hell out and I was really, really thirsty. Growing up, I’d have maybe two glasses of anything most days. I was just never thirsty, so the thought of adding 8 glasses of water to my already thirst-quenched self was ridiculous.
Why was I given these headaches? It seems that someone back in 1945 once misread “fluid” as “water.” Gee, that’s a bit of a mistake, eh? At least I didn’t listen. For those who did — excessive water drinkage can result in a number of health complications — it can speed up kidney damage in those with impaired function, result in cardiac arrhythmias.
And they tried to tell me that my old, beloved Diet Coke was bad.*
*Note: I no longer drink the stuff, but relied on it through my final years of high school since I hated coffee back then.
